When we are born, we are concerned only about our own needs and their satisfaction. As we grow older, we learn that we must also consider others. Often this is a necessity, not something we like. It can also be how we feel about our teams: we work with others, but if we had our choice, we might prefer more independence. How do we move beyond a grudging acceptance of teamwork? No one can make others exited about working as a team. But sometimes we experience its power in accomplishing something together we couldn’t have done as individuals. Then we often discover that we want more of this. We can’t push people into wanting to be a team; but we can help them experience its power and perhaps discover that they like it.
